ARE YOU COLO-READY

Are you Colo Ready?

Colorado is a true paradise for nature lovers. Coloradans can enjoy the magnificent views of the Rocky Mountains, try skiing, kayaking or biking. People should bear in mind that each year more than 85 million tourists visit this place. We need you to be thoughtful about the possible implications of your visit.

Today we would like to share some important tips to save the environment while you enjoy the beauty of nature:

  1. Leave No Trace
  2. Planning your route and transportation
  3. Dispose of waste properly
  4. Do not harm the flora
  5. Try not to use a campfire
  6. Durable surfaces
  7. Protect the flora and fauna
  8. Be respectful to wildlife and other tourists

Leave No Trace

Leave No Trace has become one of the most popular environmental nonprofits. The main goal of this organization is to ensure that tourists do not harm the natural environment.

Planning your route and transportation

The impact of transport on the environment can be assessed according to various criteria: energy efficiency, energy source (renewable is better), emissions of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, sulfur and nitrogen oxides, and heavy metals. Noise, the number of passengers and many other details play a role. It is difficult to take into account and compare all the factors for different types of transport, but there are basic recommendations that you can focus on.

It is important not only how to get there, but also how to move around on the spot. The ideal option is on foot or by bike. If this is not suitable, give preference to public transport. For trips to places where it is inconvenient to get on the bus, try to rent cars with an electric or hybrid engine.

Dispose of waste properly

Plastic bags, disposable tableware and plastic food packaging are the most common waste that remains after outdoor recreation. It takes hundreds of years to decompose in nature, and some types of packaging, such as paper drink cups with a plastic coating on the inside, are virtually unrecyclable. Therefore, the first rule of an eco-friendly picnic is to reduce the amount of such garbage as much as possible.

Do not harm the flora

Breaking off a piece of tree bark, picking a bouquet of flowers in a nature reserve with a strict protection regime, stepping on a plant – a person has many opportunities to harm natural ecosystems. Almost all wildflowers are very delicate and wither quickly after being picked. When we deprive them of their natural habitat, it can have a number of critical consequences. Even if we don’t realize it, flowers are part of an entire ecosystem for insects, birds, and small animals. The less we interfere with wildlife, the better.

Try not to use a campfire

Another trace, which is usually left by lovers of outdoor recreation, is the charred land from the fires, where vegetables or meat were fried. When we make a fire directly on the ground, we burn humus, all insects and all the microorganisms that live on this area of soil. The restoration will take two to three years, during which time no grass will grow there at all.

Therefore, if you have planned a BBQ or just want to sit by the fire, be sure to take a barbecue or a fire bowl with you. Ideally, the brazier should be reusable, but disposable is also good – provided that after the picnic you take it with you and hand it over to scrap metal.

Durable surfaces

Be mindful to only walk, ride, drive, and camp on designated trails, roads, and campsites. Travel and camp on sturdy surfaces. This idea guarantees that outdoor enthusiasts don’t harm sensitive areas and streams.

Protect the flora and fauna

Overtourism has become a serious problem for top destinations. Even if everyone cleans up after themselves and treats the local flora and fauna responsibly, a crowd of ten thousand people cannot but harm nature. It is forbidden to touch or feed animals, because doing this you can significantly harm the ecosystem.

Be respectful to wildlife and other tourists

Chronic exposure of animals to noise is rare in the wild due to threat avoidance mechanisms. This is also due to the fact that the increased level of noise produced by humans is not such a frequent occurrence in natural areas.

Animals can tolerate noise for two reasons: either they do not want to leave their habitat, or they are fed here, or they themselves find food in noisy places. Therefore, some species of birds living in places with high noise levels may eventually get used to it.

At the same time, being in nature, we should make as little noise as possible, and not only for the sake of the forest and its inhabitants, but also out of respect for other people who decide to relax in the same place.

Experience was simply fantastic! The driver showed up punctually for our Red Rocks show and even waited for us despite the rain. He promptly picked us up afterwards. The 10 person luxury Van comfortably accommodated 8 of us. I am confident in recommending InterMountain Express Van and would definitely use their Red Rocks shuttle services again. I am grateful for making my son's birthday an unforgettable one. Thanks to the InterMountain Express rocks limo.

Our connecting flight from Denver --> Aspen was cancelled and InterMountain Express got us to Snowmass last-minute during snowy conditions. The Suburban was impeccable, outfitted with snow tires, and was more than enough space for may family of five and all our ski gear. We had to pay an added premium for the last-minute service - it is my understanding that pre-planned trips rand for 1/2 the cost - but it was an expense well worth it to get my family safely to our resort and on the slopes on schedule the following day.

Excellent service that is consistently reliable and on schedule. I've been using Ringo as my driver to the Denver International Airport for the past five years, and I heartily recommend him to all of my friends and family. So, if you ever find yourself in the Denver region and require trustworthy quality service, I highly recommend that you get in touch with Intermountain Express Limo service.

Such great service! Arrived early and assisted with carrying and loading baggage. The driver was very nice and provided us with tips for navigating the Denver Airport. All passengers felt extremely comfortable in the car and with the driver. So much better than a shuttle service!
