Snow Bikes

All lovers of extreme and active skiing know how sometimes you want to warm up in winter and ride as intensely as in summer. But an ordinary bicycle or motorcycle, unfortunately, does not give us such great opportunity. Ordinary wheels with a great difficulty go through the snow. Of course, motocross enthusiasts will also not be able to warm up for their pleasure and get their due share of adrenaline without additional work with a shovel. Snow biking is a great opportunity to feel the adrenaline rush in winter, enjoying both speed and movement on snowy bumps, as well as beautiful views.

Colorado’s top destinations:

Snow bikes

Snow bike is an extreme direction of skiing in which skis are installed in place of wheels for a bicycle or motorcycle. In the case of a motorcycle, the rear wheel is replaced by a caterpillar like a snowmobile. In fact, everything is much more complicated than it sounds. Although there are kits for the same bike that are installed in place of the wheels, on professional devices the frame is usually changed and the rear skis are somewhat changed. A ski bike is assembled on the basis of a two-suspension bike. The same elements are used as in a conventional bicycle. Even the pedals stay in place. Installed long-stroke fork and rear suspension. A ski bike can also be assembled on the basis of a hardtail or a rigid.

ski bike at Colorado’s ski areas

Snow bikes will impress, first of all, those who like to ride in the mountains. After all, when it snows there, the only way to ski is to take skis or a snowboard. Not everyone is ready to give up the classic bike and many would like to get the maximum experience even in winter. Perhaps that is why today such devices are gaining more and more popularity.

If ground is covered of snow it doesn’t mean you can not biking until summer. What resorts in the state offer this type of biking like Winter Park Resort, Steamboat Resort and Purgatory Resort in Durango.

Ski Biking in Colorado

Are ski bikes allowed in Colorado?

Ski bikes are a fairly new trend. In fact, the meaning is the same as on a bicycle. A special kit turns the motorcycle into a powerful snowmobile. This snowmobile gives you completely unlimited possibilities when riding in the snow. This device differs from a conventional snowmobile in its maneuverability. In fact, we get a motocross bike that can ride on snow like a bike rides on dirt in summer. For skiing, there are several resorts where ski bikes are officially allowed.

Snow bikes have recently become quite widespread and this interest can be explained. As we wrote above, lovers of cycling or motorcycles in winter are deprived of the opportunity to carry out a full-fledged ride. In the presence of fluffy snow, such a snow bike will greatly simplify winter skiing and open up new opportunities. Due to its softness, snow forgives many mistakes and allows you to learn some new and complex tricks.

Breckenridge Ski Bikes

Does Breckenridge allow ski bikes? Snow bikes are allowed in Breckenridge and Keystone as long as they have a seat, leash, and skis with metal edges.

Perhaps the most picturesque place for snow biking is Breckenridge. This place attracts hundreds of thousands of children and adults with its clean, serene nature and the atmosphere of a winter fairy tale. Walking through snow-covered forests on snow bikes is a real paradise for fans of winter tourism and outdoor enthusiasts. But lovers of skiing and snowboarding should go to the ski resorts of Vail and Aspen. There are many trails that are suitable for skiing athletes and amateurs with any level of training. The slopes of the local resorts are equipped with modern lifts, and the ski resorts boast a developed infrastructure: there are hotels and cottages, cafes, restaurants, entertainment centers and spa complexes with a swimming pool and sauna on their territory.

Today many ski resorts in Colorado offer an opportunity to try snow bikes or ski bikes; if you are looking for the best option, then Colorado Springs is what you need. If you’ve decided to take a break from skiing and snowboarding, it’s time to try snowmobiling. This pleasure is designed for both experienced thrill-seekers and beginners. You will be given a route, and a professional instructor will show you simple ways to control a snowmobile. There are also snowmobiles for children.

Good to know

clothing

To feel comfortable while walking on a snow bike, you need to choose the most waterproof and windproof clothing. Some people think that skiing equipment is suitable for skiing, but this is not entirely true.
So, what is the equipment for a snow biking.

Helmet and balaclava

Safety is paramount, so choosing a helmet should be given special attention. It should be durable, comfortable, fit snugly on the head and, of course, not restrict visibility and audibility. It is also recommended to buy a balaclava made of thin breathable synthetic material for it. Sometimes such a mask is included in the basic package.

Boots

With shoes, too, not everything is so simple. Snow bike riding requires boots that protect your shins, feet, and ankles from injury. Plus, they must retain heat for a sufficiently long time and withstand low temperatures. The soles of snowmobile shoes should be flexible, with a deep tread to prevent slipping. Among other things, do not forget that shoes should also be comfortable, so we recommend that you try on and walk around in boots for about five minutes before buying.

Overalls or pants

Before buying overalls or snow bike pants, you need to pay attention to the strength of the material, as well as the presence of an additional insert in the knee area. Models with internal gaiters provide additional protection from snow and cold. Be sure to check the line of the seams, they must ensure the absolute tightness of the product. This is often achieved by additional taping of the seams.

Jacket

Choose jackets made of membrane fabric, they provide the best protection against moisture and cold. Jackets made of such fabric protect both from frost and wind.

Thermal underwear

This is a mandatory layer of clothing in order for all the equipment listed above to work. Don’t forget to wear a sweater too.

Gloves

A very important accessory. They should ideally be made of several layers, which can be worn separately if necessary. Leather and other protective coatings against water and dirt can be used in the outer layer, and insulation must be in the inner part.

let’s summarize

In general, the equipment should be light, warm and in no case should restrict the movement of the rider.

It is important to be aware that in some countries, such as the United States, a valid driver’s license may be required to rent a snow bike – it is best to check this before you travel.

The best time for snow biking is on a clear, sunny day. For night riding, make sure the trails are adequately lit and that the snow bike has all lights on. Refrain from driving in heavy snow or blizzards, because of poor visibility, you can get into an accident.

If you’re here with your snow bike and want to ride to the resort in comfort, book Denver airport private transportation

Experience was simply fantastic! The driver showed up punctually for our Red Rocks show and even waited for us despite the rain. He promptly picked us up afterwards. The 10 person luxury Van comfortably accommodated 8 of us. I am confident in recommending InterMountain Express Van and would definitely use their Red Rocks shuttle services again. I am grateful for making my son's birthday an unforgettable one. Thanks to the InterMountain Express rocks limo.

Our connecting flight from Denver --> Aspen was cancelled and InterMountain Express got us to Snowmass last-minute during snowy conditions. The Suburban was impeccable, outfitted with snow tires, and was more than enough space for may family of five and all our ski gear. We had to pay an added premium for the last-minute service - it is my understanding that pre-planned trips rand for 1/2 the cost - but it was an expense well worth it to get my family safely to our resort and on the slopes on schedule the following day.

Such great service! Arrived early and assisted with carrying and loading baggage. The driver was very nice and provided us with tips for navigating the Denver Airport. All passengers felt extremely comfortable in the car and with the driver. So much better than a shuttle service!
