How do I prepare for Colorado winter?

Preparing for a Colorado winter means staying warm, safe, and ready for colder weather and snow. Tips for planning a winter trip to Colorado:

Wear layers

Dress in layers to keep heat close. Warm underwear, fleece or down jackets, and waterproof outerwear are included.

Hats, gloves, scarves, and insulated boots are essential.

Weather Forecast

Mountain weather changes quickly, so check forecasts. Prepare for snowstorms, cold, and icy roads.

Driver Safety in Winter

Make sure your car has good tires, antifreeze, and brakes for winter driving. If needed, bring chains or snow tires.

Your car should have blankets, water, snacks, a flashlight, and a first aid kit.

Stay hydrated

Dry air and high altitudes in Colorado can cause dehydration. Despite not being thirsty, drink lots of water.

Keep Skin Safe

Apply moisturizer and sunscreen before going outside to avoid dry skin. Snow reflects sunlight and maximizes UV exposure.

Altitude Change

Take it easy the first day or two if you’re not used to high altitudes. Stay hydrated to combat altitude sickness.

Planning Outdoor Activities

Winter sports require proper gear. The resort may rent equipment.

Stay within your limits and watch for frostbite and hypothermia.

Indoor Activities

For winter relaxation, visit one of Colorado’s hot springs. Include indoor activities to balance your outdoor time.

Care for Wildlife

Never forget that Colorado wildlife is winter-adapted. Prevent disturbing animals this season by staying away.

Experience was simply fantastic! The driver showed up punctually for our Red Rocks show and even waited for us despite the rain. He promptly picked us up afterwards. The 10 person luxury Van comfortably accommodated 8 of us. I am confident in recommending InterMountain Express Van and would definitely use their Red Rocks shuttle services again. I am grateful for making my son's birthday an unforgettable one. Thanks to the InterMountain Express rocks limo.

Our connecting flight from Denver --> Aspen was cancelled and InterMountain Express got us to Snowmass last-minute during snowy conditions. The Suburban was impeccable, outfitted with snow tires, and was more than enough space for may family of five and all our ski gear. We had to pay an added premium for the last-minute service - it is my understanding that pre-planned trips rand for 1/2 the cost - but it was an expense well worth it to get my family safely to our resort and on the slopes on schedule the following day.

Such great service! Arrived early and assisted with carrying and loading baggage. The driver was very nice and provided us with tips for navigating the Denver Airport. All passengers felt extremely comfortable in the car and with the driver. So much better than a shuttle service!
