Cross-country skiing is different from the lift-served downhill skiing at Vail Mountain. For groomed Nordic trails near Vail Village, start with the Vail Nordic Center, operated by the Vail Recreation District. Check its current trail status, season dates, hours and prices before traveling; snow conditions change.
What the Vail Nordic Center offers
The Nordic Center describes trails for classic and skate skiing, lessons, rentals and snowshoeing. Beginners can ask about instruction and suitable equipment; experienced skiers can check which trails are open and their current condition. The district posts a trail report and contact information on its website.
Vail Mountain also offers a guide to cross-country skiing around Vail, including the Vail Nordic Center and Beaver Creek’s Nordic options. These are separate facilities with different access rules and costs; a downhill lift pass should not be assumed to cover a Nordic visit.
