Is kayaking difficult?
No! Kayaking has a very low entry threshold – once you have mastered the basic skills, you can already swim in the rivers. Of course, kayaking in bad weather or on choppy waters comes with a lot of danger. But kayaking in such difficult conditions is not recommended, even if you have many years of experience behind you.
What clothes are suitable for kayaking?
You need to dress in numerous layers to stay warm. The following items, made of what materials, should be placed inside each layer:
Wear short sleeves when it’s hot outside, but keep a long-sleeved garment on hand just in case. The optimum apparel is synthetic (made of polypropylene and polyester), which will keep you warm even when wet.
Fleece or heavy polyester fabrics are ideal for the middle layer.
Water-resistant clothing. The better, the more waterproof. Keep your lower layers of clothing dry.
Leggings and Shorts: In cold weather, wear polyester leggings and waterproof shorts. Leggings should be taken with you just in case, even in warm weather.
The best apparel is water resistant. Kayaking can be done while wearing any waterproof apparel. The ideal choice would be a dry suit specifically designed for kayaking, but even a novice can locate appropriate apparel in their collection.
When choosing clothes, be guided not by the weather, but by the temperature of the water – and remember that the temperature can change! You need to dress so as not to freeze in the water. Hypothermia is a serious health threat, and water can be cold even on the hottest days. Also, always keep extra clothing in the kayak’s luggage compartment in case the weather changes.
