Choosing a Car for a Mountain Road Trip

Mountain road trips are a great way to explore the natural beauty of your surroundings.

Before you hit the road, choosing a car that can handle the trip is important. Not every type of car is equipped for mountain driving, and if you’re not careful, you could end up stuck on the side of the road. This blog post will give you tips for choosing a car that can make the most of your mountain road trip. Get quote for Mountain transportation.

1. The terrain

The first step is to think about the terrain you’ll be driving on. If you’re planning on sticking to paved roads, any type of car will do (depending on the time of year). If you’re venturing off the beaten path, you’ll need a car that can handle rough roads and potentially even some off-roading. In the mountains, you’re likely to encounter winding roads, steep inclines, and tight turns. Make sure your car can handle these conditions by checking the specifications before you buy. If you’re not sure what to look for, ask a salesperson and do some research online. There are plenty of forums and articles that can give you advice on which cars are best for mountain driving.

2. The time of year

Wintertime driving is far different from summer driving, and the conditions in the mountains can change quickly. In the winter, you’ll need a car that can handle snow and ice. For example, when traveling to Aspen for a ski trip, all-wheel drive is essential. Without it, you could easily get stuck in the snow. In the summer, the snow and ice are gone, but you’ll still need to be careful on the roads. Mountain roads can be slippery, even when there’s no snow or ice. If it rains, the roads can become even more dangerous.

3. The cost of insurance

In some cases, the cost of auto insurance can be a deciding factor in which car you choose. For example, if you’re planning on driving an SUV on your mountain road trip, the cost of insurance will be higher than if you were to drive a sedan. This is because SUVs are more likely to be involved in accidents, and they’re also more likely to roll over. Before you choose a car, get quotes from several insurance companies to see how much the premium will be. You may be surprised at how much the cost can vary from company to company.

4. The size of the car.

The size of the car is another important consideration, especially if you’re planning on doing any off-roading. A smaller car might be able to maneuver around tight turns and narrow roads, but it could get stuck if the terrain gets too rough. An SUV or a truck will be able to handle more difficult terrain, but it might not be able to fit in some of the smaller parking spaces. And if you’re planning on camping, you’ll need to make sure your car can fit all of your gear.

What if I Can’t Find the Perfect Car?

There are a few options if you can’t find the perfect car for your mountain road trip. The first is to rent a car. This is a great option if you’re only planning on taking a trip for a week or two. Another option is to buy an older car that’s been built for off-roading. These cars are usually cheaper, and they’re more likely to be able to handle tough terrain. Finally, you could hire a professional driver to take you on your trip. This is the most expensive option, but it’s also the easiest.

Experience was simply fantastic! The driver showed up punctually for our Red Rocks show and even waited for us despite the rain. He promptly picked us up afterwards. The 10 person luxury Van comfortably accommodated 8 of us. I am confident in recommending InterMountain Express Van and would definitely use their Red Rocks shuttle services again. I am grateful for making my son's birthday an unforgettable one. Thanks to the InterMountain Express rocks limo.

Our connecting flight from Denver --> Aspen was cancelled and InterMountain Express got us to Snowmass last-minute during snowy conditions. The Suburban was impeccable, outfitted with snow tires, and was more than enough space for may family of five and all our ski gear. We had to pay an added premium for the last-minute service - it is my understanding that pre-planned trips rand for 1/2 the cost - but it was an expense well worth it to get my family safely to our resort and on the slopes on schedule the following day.

Such great service! Arrived early and assisted with carrying and loading baggage. The driver was very nice and provided us with tips for navigating the Denver Airport. All passengers felt extremely comfortable in the car and with the driver. So much better than a shuttle service!
